Our Story

Primary understands the power of communication to engage and influence. Our three specialist businesses offer experts in creative design, strategic communication, and stakeholder engagement.

We help clients through eras of trends, local and global crises, periods of stability and most recently and increasingly, perpetual, pervasive, and exponential change.

Today, Primary is owned by a group of partners. This unique structure gives us a leading edge, with clients directly serviced daily by senior consultancy owners.

Our team brings established leaders and passionate young guns together to make great things happen. Our story is told through the success of our clients’ campaigns and programs, many of which are still growing, evolving, and being delivered by the Primary team, 30 years on.

Chris is an experienced communication, stakeholder relations and government relations professional.

He was the longest-serving Chief of Staff in the NSW State Government across eight portfolios for almost six years, including Sport and Western Sydney. In 2022 Chris was invited to sit on the Social Peak Reference Group for the NSW Government’s Greater Cities Commission.

His previous roles have given him strong insights that help guide Primary’s clients on policy, stakeholder, and media issues.

He has led numerous Government Relations and Stakeholder engagement projects in the property industry in recent years.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Business with Credit and is IAP2 qualified with community engagement experience. Outside of work he is the Chair of Sport NSW.

Elaine Banoub

Elaine Banoub is a seasoned communications professional with over 22 years of experience in developing high-impact, integrated campaigns across digital and new media platforms. She leads the agency’s technology and cybersecurity portfolio, leveraging her extensive network of industry and media contacts to build reputation and awareness programs through strategic media and stakeholder engagement.

Elaine has worked with technology clients including Zebra Technologies, Claroty, Barracuda Networks, AISA, and Lumify successfully enhancing their market presence and credibility. She combines her deep understanding of the tech landscape with robust project management and measurement skills, ensuring all client campaigns are data-driven and outcome-focused.

Certified in Measurement & Evaluation by AMEC International, Elaine focuses on demonstrating the communication impact of every campaign. Her long-standing relationships with Australian mainstream and trade media, alongside her two decades of experience in developing innovative communication strategies, position her as a trusted advisor and thought leader in the tech PR space.

In addition to her operational role, Bernadette oversees financial management across all areas of the business, ensuring efficiency and sustainability.

Melissa has a strong background in strategic communication, media relations, stakeholder engagement and project management across corporate and government sectors.

She leads large corporate affairs retainer clients that require strategic communication and government engagement, and experienced in working with a broad range of consultants and internal team members to manage client programs.

She has the ability to develop communication and engagement strategies, with clear messaging and ideas that cut through across a broad range of clients and complex businesses.

She specialises in stakeholder mapping, delivering effective stakeholder engagement that are both measurable and seamlessly tracked for clients. She also brings best practice measurement and evaluation frameworks to evaluate client communication programs.

Melissa holds a Bachelor of Communication and qualifications in Measurement and Evaluation in Communication.
